Cancer Treatment, the Future of Healthcare?

Summary
Scientists claim to have overcome a major hurdle in their work on finding a way to wipe out cancer with viruses. A new treatment against cancer may have been found. Scientists suggest the reovirus has the power to shrink tumours. Normally the reovirus cause stomach aches and mild colds. This virus is injected in the bloodstream and it focuses on the cancer cells. This therapy has been tested on 10 patients with all tumours and the cancer cells had been spread to the liver. Shortly after the treatments the patients’ blood was tested and the virus only ran on the red blood cells, so the good cells were left alone. If this treatment gets through all the tests it might be able to treat a broad range of cancers. This new therapy is real promising and the best of all, there are probably less side-effects. Opinion
I think this is a break through. I am very glad that the most horrible disease might be cured in the future. You can’t say anything bad about this article because it is only good news. This treatment needs to be researched better I guess, and be tested well, but overall I think this treatment gives hope. I know cancer is a horrible disease because of my experience, and I know a lot of people have. Overall I hope this treatment will be the future of healthcare. Words: 87

Woops, Wrong Parking

Summary
“Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. I am just waiting for the AA (Automobile Association [not part of the quote]) to arrive. Please do not fine! Thank you, yours sincerely.” This was written on a note a London Tourist had written after his car broke down. He had to find a spot where he could park the car, to wait for the AA. He went to do some sightseeing, but when he came back, there was a big surprise for him. The police considered it a possible tourist attack, because it was close to the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. His car was blown up, with all his personal belongings in it. He could just see the wrack of his car, and above all, he also got a parking ticket. He called the police’s behaviour extremely arrogant and unprofessional. Words: 142

Opinion
I think this is something to laugh about. How could you park in a spot where you know important buildings are near? How could you go sight-seeing when you are waiting for car services? And how can you call the police’s actions arrogant and unprofessional, when you know in the past there have been a lot of terrorist’s attacks? I think this man himself is arrogant to think that he should be treated different than anyone else who parks wrong, because just a note won’t make the threat would go away when there is a not on the car. It is sad that the car has been blown up, but I think when you argue with yourself, you know it is your own fault. Words:124

Ambulance too late

Summary
A "green emergency" was it called, there should be a response within 20 minutes. A paramedic was there within 15 minutes, but the ambulance took 34 minutes to get to the place where the call was made. Sarah Gould lost her baby because it took this long. She started bleeding as she was dropping her daughter off at school. The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said that an ambulance was sent as soon as one became available. Too bad it was too late. According to the EMAS a condolence has been send to Ms. Gould and her partner. Her partner has said that he will never trust an ambulance ever again, he could have got her to a hospital within a couple of minutes, but they thought waiting was the best option. Words: 129

Opinion
I think it is weird that she got a “green emergency”, while she was bleeding, while she knew her baby was dying. If she had got a “red emergency”, which means an ambulance will come within 8 minutes; the baby may have been saved. I think that the ambulance service should try to picture these kinds of emergencies. At the other side, I think they did the best they could in this situation. Although I feel sorry for the woman who has lost her child, you cannot change it, but I hope in the future, these things don’t happen anymore. Words: 100

Working a mom

Summary
“It isn’t any different to being a full time.” These words are told by Nike Siffre. She was a really workaholic before she started with having kids. When she became pregnant, she was working in a big office, and she had to work several nights and weekends and had trips where she had to go far away from her living place. She didn’t want that anymore. She went to work as a freelance, but while she was working on several projects she became pregnant of her second son. She wanted to go back to an office, she liked that work more. By a recruitment service aimed at skilled part-time workers, she found a job, in which she could combine her family life and her job. Now she is a parent, and she can work part time. She wants to show it does work. Words: 143

Opinion
This is an article which is more a biography. It is not really a news item, but I think it is important to talk about this. She is a working mom. I understand that, because when I later work in a school, I want also to be able to be a mom, and have a job at the same time. I don’t want to miss my children’s life. She is able to show that it is possible. I respect that. I think it is worth a lot, because in the time we live now, it is almost impossible to support a family with just one paycheck, that is why I wanted to show you this article. Words: 116

KitKat not enough?

Summary
The staff are not just perturbed, but insulted.” That was said after they got a kitkat candy bar. They got this candy bar because they had won the South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust the title of Acute Healthcare Organisation of the Year 2011 at the Health Service Journal award. All the work the staff put in it was awarded with many prices worth over a thousand pounds, given by local businesses. The staff got a voucher worth a kitkat bar. The organisation saw it as a light-hearted gesture, but the staff took it as an insult. They have worked over 20 years to give the right treatments and working their ass of. Words: 113

Opinion
First of all, I am absolutely not satisfied about this summary. I think this is a hard topic to write about. I can’t really make up if they think it is too less for what they have done. I think you work for society, you do a good job, and besides your paycheck, everything you get as a “thank you” should be taken by heart. What can you expect? I mean, of course they deserve a lot more because of their work, but it is a profession you choose. One job gets more bonuses then the others. That is just what I think. Words: 103

Choking because of schoolmeal

Summary
Flowers left at Pentland Primary School in memory of Chantelle Firth “I know children have accidents but you wonder how a child can choke to death.” This is what a mother said after a terrible accident at the Pentland Avenue School. Her son is at the same school as where a girl, Chantelle Firth, choked to death as she was eating a school meal. She was brought to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton. Chantelle herself was a really popular girl, and everyone is devastated according to the headteacher. The pupils, teachers and parents of children at that school are very shocked. The police have started an investigation to find out how this accident could have happened. Words 108

Opinion
I think this is terrible. Such a young girl. Of course accidents happen, and this is one of those, but still it is tragic. I wish these things to no one. The only thing I find disturbing is that in the article a big emphasis is forced on how popular she was. But what would happen is she wasn’t that popular, but just a shy girl who doesn’t stand out. I think that should not be in a newspaper. It feels to me like the children who are popular mean more than the one who aren’t. That is a shame. Words: 100

Music and empty cans

Summary
“What you see is what you get. I love to party with my mates, well, the ones who can keep up with me that is." That is what her facebook says. Leanne Fennell had parties every night, torturing her neighbours. The funny thing is that she blamed a ghost for the noise and the empty cans of beer and empty bottles of wine. Her neighbours reported her several times, she got a warning by the council, but she didn’t do anything to solve the problem. After this she was taken to court and now she has to leave her home. She also gets a fine and costs to pay. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Words: 115

Opinion
When I read this article I first had to laugh. This is just I funny story, unbelievable that people are so crazy in their head that they can blame a poldergeist. I know how awful it is to have neighbours who do not think of others around them. I think you should give your neighbours some rest at night, let them sleep. I just think this could be a comedy show, that’s all I have to say about it. Words: 79
